PLUMBING MAINTENANCE TIPS
- Check sump pumps periodically to verify functioning.
- Check the joints for all tubs, showers and bathroom sinks periodically and caulk as
needed to prevent water from enter the floor/wall structure.
- Check for leakage around base of toilets periodically and repair as needed.
- Repair all dripping and leaking faucets.
- Repair any continuous running toilets.
- Check and clean any basement drains periodically.
- Clean out slow drains with a drain clearing product available at your local hardware store.
Clogs may have to be removed by a professional.
- Septic tanks should be inspected every 2 to 3 years by a qualified septic company and pumped
out as needed. When the space between the scum and the sludge becomes one-half the total
depth of the tank, pumping is advisable.
- Replace water filtration systems as called for by the manufacturer.
- Turn off interior shut off valves for all exterior hose bibbs and open the exterior valves
during freezing temperatures to prevent freezing.
- Insulate all water supply pipes subject to freezing temperatures (Attics, garages,
crawl spaces & etc.).
- Monitor all plumbing pipes, fixtures and drain pipes periodically for leaking
and repair as needed. Encrustations (visible buildup of deposits) on the exterior of
plumbing are an early indication of a leak or a developing leak.
