WHOLE HOUSE FAN MAINTENANCE TIPS
- Clean the fan blades on an annual basis.
- Check drive belt for excessive wear and replace if needed.
- Retension drive belt if too loose.
- Lubricate motor and pulley bearings every 6 months.
- Whole house fans should only be used with open windows. If windows are not opened, it
can cause back drafting issues with vented gas appliances and fireplaces causing a health
and safety issue.
- Installing an insulated gypsum board cover over the whole house fan in attic that
completely encloses
the top and sides of the whole house fan when not in use is recommended. This will prevent
large loses of conditioned air in and out of the home through the whole house fan and help
decrease heating and cooling bills.
